The Ovid Island on Siutghiol Lake is one of the places that exerts true attraction to the tourists who arrive in Mamaia resort. They say that, while he was exiled, the Latin poet Ovidius Publius Naso retired on this small piece of land in order to write his poems, thus the island was named with his name. However, the legend remains standing till nowadays and there are still people who believe it. In past centuries, the island was populated with fishermen who used to build shelters here, but also with gardeners who took advantage of the fertile land of the island. Once the touristic potential was identified, the island was transformed in a beautiful leisure complex, preserving this status till nowadays.
